Above the Clouds: notable skyscraper restaurants worldwide

Half a century ago, dinner at three hundred metres was an engineering curiosity — one tower, one restaurant, one visit in a lifetime.

Today the upper floors of skyscrapers have become a gastronomic genre of their own. Chefs compete here, and many venues run dedicated menus and service rhythms — the experience is shaped as much by the view as by the plate.

This is a curated selection, not an exhaustive global directory. Observation towers (CN Tower, Tokyo Skytree) and museum roofs (Pompidou) are out of scope: that is a different kind of high-altitude experience. Hong Kong does host qualifying restaurants — Tin Lung Heen and Tosca di Angelo on level 102 of ICC — and is acknowledged here even though it is not represented by a card in this edition.

What to know before you book

One thing unites all seven restaurants: dinner here is an event. A few practical details will help you make it a good one.

i

Reservations & entry

Booking procedures, dress codes and entry requirements vary by venue and change over time — always confirm on the restaurant's official website before visiting. Note that ONE Dine at One World Trade Center is accessed through One World Observatory and requires a valid observatory ticket for entry.

ii

Sunset

The best time to visit. Ask for a table 30–40 minutes before sunset: you'll have time to order and meet the light. Golden hour lasts about an hour, then the city drops into blue.

An editorial selection of seven venues

These seven venues are presented as a curated editorial selection, not a verified global ranking. Where exact altitudes, opening dates or award statuses could not be confirmed against primary sources, the entry uses the building's published floor number instead.

If you are planning a trip and want to add one high-altitude dinner to your itinerary, choose by city and confirm the latest operating details with each restaurant before you go.
