SkyscrapersInfo — Copyright & Licensing Policy

This policy explains how copyright and related intellectual-property rights apply to the materials published on SkyscrapersInfo. It does not create any licence beyond what applicable law provides or what SkyscrapersInfo expressly grants in a separate written agreement. Capitalised terms refer to the entities identified above and in Section 12 below.

Copyright Ownership and Attribution

The editorial selection, arrangement, and original expression of material published on this website are protected by copyright and related rights under the Copyright Ordinance (Cap. 528) of the Laws of Hong Kong, the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works, the WIPO Copyright Treaty, and other applicable international instruments. Whether copyright subsists in any specific work, and who the author is, are questions of fact that depend on the circumstances of creation and on the applicable law; they are not determined by statements on this page.

Separately, the "SkyscrapersInfo" name, the SkyscrapersInfo logo, and related signs may be protected under the Trade Marks Ordinance (Cap. 559) of the Laws of Hong Kong and equivalent laws elsewhere. SkyscrapersInfo does not, by this policy, represent that any particular mark is a registered trade mark, nor that registration has been obtained in Hong Kong or in any other jurisdiction; whether a sign is registered, and where, is a question of fact to be determined from the official registers of the relevant trade-mark office, and has not been independently confirmed by counsel. Trade-mark rights (whether registered or arising from use under the law of unfair competition or passing off) are distinct from copyright and apply to brand identifiers, logos, and signs used in trade. Nothing in this policy grants any commercial licence to use the SkyscrapersInfo name, logo, or related marks. Nominative use of the name to refer to the website or its editorial content — for example, in commentary, criticism, news reporting, a hyperlink, or an editorial reference — and other lawful uses of unregistered or registered marks (including fair use, descriptive use, and use that does not suggest endorsement, sponsorship, or affiliation) are not, by themselves, restricted by this policy and do not require a separate written commercial agreement. A registration search and a brand-protection review remain separate operator tasks and have not been completed; whether a particular mark is registered, and where, is a question of fact for the official trade-mark registers.

Materials on SkyscrapersInfo may fall into distinct legal categories. SKYSCRAPERS INFO LIMITED may hold rights in materials it owns. SKYSCRAPERS INFO LIMITED may hold licence rights in materials it has licensed from third parties. Some materials are made available under applicable open licences (such as Creative Commons), in which case the terms of that open licence govern attribution and reuse; the original author is identified in the credit line where known, and the specific licence is linked from the asset page where one applies. Other materials remain the property of their respective third-party rightsholders.

Credit lines displayed on SkyscrapersInfo are provided for informational purposes only and are not, by themselves, proof of ownership or of authority to grant a licence. Rights in each work are established by operation of law (for example, by the Copyright Ordinance (Cap. 528)), by written agreement with the rightsholder, and by the terms of any applicable licence. Where the credit line, licence, or page does not clearly identify ownership or licence status — or where the credit line is, in fact, inaccurate or incomplete — the position should be treated as unverified and enquiries should be directed through the channels listed in Section 12. SkyscrapersInfo does not represent that every credit line on the website is complete, accurate, or current, and SkyscrapersInfo has not independently verified every licence arrangement with every third-party rightsholder.

SkyscrapersInfo asserts rights over its original expression, not over the underlying facts of the built environment. Where original material is reused under a permitted use or granted licence, the credit required is set out in Section 10.

Original Editorial Content

Original editorial content published on SkyscrapersInfo — including skyscraper profiles, district guides, architectural commentary, ranking articles, timelines, glossary entries, comparative analyses, and news commentary — may be:

  • Owned by SKYSCRAPERS INFO LIMITED, where produced by its staff or by commissioned contributors under a written agreement that transfers economic copyright to SkyscrapersInfo;
  • Licensed to SKYSCRAPERS INFO LIMITED, where a contributor retains copyright and grants SkyscrapersInfo a defined publication licence; or
  • Owned by a third party and used with permission, where the rightsholder is identified in the credit line.

Where authorship, ownership, or licence status is not clear from the page itself, the position should be treated as unverified and enquiries should be directed through the channels listed in Section 12.

The chain of title for material on SkyscrapersInfo varies. Original expression may be owned by SKYSCRAPERS INFO LIMITED where it was created by its staff or by commissioned contributors under a written agreement that transfers economic copyright to the company. Some material may be the work of founders or individual contributors whose rights have not been formally transferred to the company, in which case the rights may remain personally held by the creator. Other material may be the work of contractors or contributors under licences that grant SKYSCRAPERS INFO LIMITED only a defined right of use, while the contributor retains copyright. The applicable chain of title depends on the specific work and on the actual written agreement (if any) made at the time of creation. Where the chain of title has not been independently verified, the position should be treated as unverified, and SkyscrapersInfo does not, by this policy, assert that every editorial work, photograph, design element, line of code, or other protected expression on the site is, in fact, owned by SKYSCRAPERS INFO LIMITED.

Compilations, selections, and arrangements of data into structured databases — including the master skyscraper database, the buildings-by-city index, and the editorial rankings — may be protected as original compilations where their selection or arrangement satisfies the originality threshold applicable to compilations under Section 4(1) of the Copyright Ordinance (Cap. 528) of Hong Kong and equivalent provisions elsewhere. Substantial reproduction of those compilations requires prior written authorisation from the relevant rightsholder.

Some materials on SkyscrapersInfo are produced with the assistance of artificial-intelligence tools or are wholly computer-generated. Under Section 11(3) of the Copyright Ordinance (Cap. 528) of Hong Kong, the author of a computer-generated literary, dramatic, musical, or artistic work is "the person by whom the arrangements necessary for the creation of the work are undertaken." This provision does not, on its face, require that the author be a human being; it attributes authorship to the person who made the arrangements necessary for creation. SKYSCRAPERS INFO LIMITED does not, by this policy, assert that Section 11(3) applies to any specific AI-assisted or computer-generated work on SkyscrapersInfo, and does not assert or deny copyright in any specific AI-assisted or computer-generated work. Whether copyright (if any) subsists in such a work, and who (if anyone) is the rightsholder, depends on the facts of its creation, on the role of natural persons in those arrangements, and on the applicable law; that analysis has not been completed by counsel.

Photography, Video and 360° Materials

Photographs, videos, drone footage, time-lapse sequences, and 360° panoramic materials displayed on SkyscrapersInfo are not the property of SkyscrapersInfo unless SkyscrapersInfo is, in fact, the rightsholder by operation of law or by written agreement. Ownership of each visual work is established independently of this website — by operation of law (for example, by the Copyright Ordinance (Cap. 528)), by written agreement between the photographer or their representative and SkyscrapersInfo or another party, and by the terms of any applicable licence (including any Creative Commons or other open licence). The credit line beneath or beside an asset is a courtesy attribution; it is not, by itself, the source of legal title.

The list of possible sources below is descriptive; it does not imply that SkyscrapersInfo holds any licence or permission from any of these parties, nor that any of them has endorsed the use made of their material on SkyscrapersInfo. The presence, accuracy, or completeness of a credit line is not, by itself, a representation that SkyscrapersInfo or any user of the website has authority to reproduce the work. Enquiries about authority to reproduce should be directed to the relevant rightsholder or, where the rightsholder is unknown, through the channels listed in Section 12.

Storage of an image on the SkyscrapersInfo content-delivery network (for example, a Tilda CDN address visible in the asset URL) is a technical arrangement for delivery of files to website visitors; it is not, by itself, evidence that the image has been licensed for the use actually made, that the credit line is accurate, that the asset has passed an asset-level licensing audit, or that SkyscrapersInfo holds any sub-licensing authority. A name appearing in a credit line is informational; it is not, by itself, a representation that the named person or entity is the actual rights holder, nor that they have authority to grant a licence on behalf of any other person. The Operator has not, to date, established that the entire existing image archive has passed an asset-level licensing audit, and the credit lines on the website are a good-faith effort to attribute each asset rather than a verified statement of title.

Visual content on SkyscrapersInfo may, depending on the asset, originate from:

  • Photographers commissioned by SkyscrapersInfo, where rights have been transferred or licensed in writing;
  • Freelance photographers and their representatives, under bespoke licences;
  • Architectural firms and building owners supplying press materials;
  • News and stock-photo agencies, under their standard terms;
  • Wikimedia Commons contributors, each under their respective Creative Commons or other open licence.

Materials with NonCommercial or Editorial Only restrictions, or other restrictions that limit commercial reuse, must be assessed on a case-by-case basis before any commercial use. The credit line does not, by itself, authorise reuse beyond what the relevant licence and applicable law permit.

Third-party images and data are not included in the scope of any licence that SkyscrapersInfo may itself grant; a licence from SkyscrapersInfo covers only materials in which SkyscrapersInfo itself holds the relevant rights.

Whether any particular reproduction, cropping, overlay, re-colouring, redistribution, or other reuse of a photograph, video, or 360° panorama requires authorisation depends on (i) the applicable law, (ii) the actual rights in the work, which may not be held by the person named in the credit line, and (iii) the terms of any open licence (such as CC BY or CC BY-SA) or other permission that actually applies. Where permission is required by law, it must be sought from the actual rightsholder — not necessarily from the credited individual — or, where SkyscrapersInfo itself is the actual rightsholder, from SkyscrapersInfo. Nothing in this paragraph is intended to restrict any use that applicable law permits without authorisation (including quotation for criticism or review under Section 39 of the Copyright Ordinance (Cap. 528) and equivalent provisions elsewhere), any use that falls within an applicable open licence, or any use of material that is, in fact, in the public domain. SkyscrapersInfo does not, by this policy, assert ownership of, or authority to licence, material owned by third parties.

Infographics, Original Databases and Website Design

Original infographics, height-comparison diagrams, structural schematics, charts, maps, and illustrations created by the SkyscrapersInfo team may be protected as original works where they satisfy the originality threshold under Section 4(1) of the Copyright Ordinance (Cap. 528) of Hong Kong and equivalent laws elsewhere. Whether any particular element of the website's visual design, layout, navigation, typography, colour system, or front-end code qualifies for copyright protection, and the scope of any such protection, depends on the applicable law and on the circumstances of creation; SkyscrapersInfo does not, by this policy, assert categorical ownership or protection of every design element, font, line of code, or data structure.

Typography, font files, page templates, design-system components, and licensed software used on SkyscrapersInfo are obtained from third-party suppliers (such as font foundries, template providers, and software vendors) under their respective licence terms. The scope of any reproduction, embedding, sub-licensing, or redistribution right with respect to those elements is governed by the licence actually granted by the supplier, not by this policy, and SkyscrapersInfo holds only the licence rights that those terms grant. AI-assisted images and design elements used on the site may, depending on the circumstances of their creation, be protected as original works, be subject to a third-party licence, or fall outside the scope of copyright protection altogether; SkyscrapersInfo does not, by this policy, assert exclusive ownership of every such element, and the analysis of authorship and subsistence in such works has not been completed by counsel.

The underlying data structures that constitute SkyscrapersInfo's databases may be protected as original compilations where their selection or arrangement satisfies the originality threshold under Section 4(1) of the Copyright Ordinance (Cap. 528). To the extent that a protected compilation, design, or data structure requires authorisation for substantial reproduction under applicable law, that authorisation must come from the actual rightsholder — which, for SkyscrapersInfo-controlled material, is SKYSCRAPERS INFO LIMITED. Where the rights are held by a third party (including a software vendor, font foundry, template provider, or data licensor), authorisation must be obtained from that third party. This paragraph preserves any copyright that may subsist in an original creative selection or arrangement; it does not assert ownership of unprotected facts, of underlying data, or of third-party software, templates, or fonts.

Some jurisdictions outside Hong Kong grant a separate sui generis right in databases that have involved substantial investment in obtaining, verifying, or presenting their contents. SKYSCRAPERS INFO LIMITED does not, by this policy, assert the existence or scope of any such right; any claim would depend on the law of the relevant jurisdiction and on verification by counsel. In particular, the fact that SKYSCRAPERS INFO LIMITED has invested in its databases does not, by itself, create a special exclusive right over the underlying facts contained in those databases.

Third-Party Content and Licences

Where SkyscrapersInfo publishes material from third parties, the licence of that third party (where one exists) applies to your reuse. Examples of licence types that may be encountered on SkyscrapersInfo include:

  • Wikimedia Commons files, used under Creative Commons licences accepted for use on SkyscrapersInfo, including Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike (CC BY-SA 4.0) and Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY 4.0). Where a file appears on SkyscrapersInfo, the credit line and any link provided alongside the file on SkyscrapersInfo indicate the source, the named author (where known), and (where one is provided) the licence under which the file is used. SkyscrapersInfo does not warrant that every such credit is complete, accurate, up to date, or accompanied by a direct link to the licence text; the file-specific page on Wikimedia Commons, where one exists, is the authoritative source for the licence version, attribution requirements, and any additional conditions. Users who wish to reuse such files must read and follow the terms attached to the specific file on Commons. Each file actually used on SkyscrapersInfo requires verification of its actual rights and licence at the time of use; this policy cannot, by itself, certify the licence of any particular file. Wikimedia Commons metadata — including the licence tag, the credit line, the upload history, and the file-description page — is useful evidence for checking an individual file, but it is not, by itself, conclusive proof that the uploader or the named author holds all the rights needed for SkyscrapersInfo's intended use; rights may be imperfect, contested, or incomplete. SkyscrapersInfo intends not to rely on an exclusive NonCommercial (NC) or NoDerivatives (ND) variant where the proposed use on SkyscrapersInfo is incompatible with the restrictions those variants impose; the Operator does not, however, represent that the entire current image and asset archive has already been audited, file by file, against this standard, and the absence of such an audit is acknowledged. Nothing in this paragraph narrows the permissions granted by CC BY or CC BY-SA, which allow reuse without prior permission subject to attribution and (for CC BY-SA) the share-alike condition.
  • Material from individual photographers, used under bespoke licences negotiated between SkyscrapersInfo and the photographer or their representative. The terms of those bespoke licences are not summarised on this page and must be obtained from the rightsholder before reuse.
  • Press kits, renderings, and fact sheets supplied by building owners, developers, design firms, and contractors for editorial coverage. Such materials are typically supplied for editorial use; commercial reuse requires separate permission from the supplier.
  • Mapping data from third-party providers under their respective terms.

Some open licences (notably CC BY and CC BY-SA) allow reuse without prior permission subject to attribution and (for CC BY-SA) the share-alike condition; this policy does not narrow those permissions. SkyscrapersInfo does not require additional or different conditions for reuse of third-party materials beyond what the applicable licence itself requires.

When you reuse third-party content found via SkyscrapersInfo, you must comply with the licence terms of the original rightsholder, which may be more or less permissive than this policy. SkyscrapersInfo does not warrant that any third-party material displayed on the website may be reused beyond the terms set by the relevant rightsholder. Attribution to SkyscrapersInfo is not, by itself, required for reuse of third-party materials unless the applicable licence or a separate written agreement so requires; attribution must follow the terms of the licence that actually applies to the material.

The statements above about the kinds of licences that may be encountered on SkyscrapersInfo, and about how SkyscrapersInfo intends to handle third-party materials, are forward-looking and conditional. They describe the standard SkyscrapersInfo aims to operate to, not a representation that the image and asset archive, as it currently stands, satisfies that standard. The presence of an asset on the SkyscrapersInfo content-delivery network (for example, a Tilda CDN address) is a technical delivery arrangement; it is not, by itself, evidence that the asset has been licensed for the use actually made, that the credit line is accurate, or that any sub-licensing right exists. The Operator has not established that the entire existing image and asset archive has passed an asset-level licensing audit; rights in any given asset are a question of fact that must be determined against the licence and the rightsholder's actual position, not inferred from a CDN address.

Architectural Facts and Public Information

SkyscrapersInfo does not claim any monopoly over factual information about buildings, including but not limited to: building height, floor count, address, geographic coordinates, completion date, names of architects, developers, contractors, structural system, primary use, and historical milestones. Such facts are generally not protected by copyright because they lack the originality required under the Copyright Ordinance (Cap. 528) of Hong Kong and equivalent laws elsewhere.

SkyscrapersInfo does, however, assert rights in the original selection, arrangement, presentation, verification, translation, and commentary that it adds to those facts, where that expression satisfies the originality threshold applicable to compilations under Section 4(1) of the Copyright Ordinance (Cap. 528) and equivalent provisions elsewhere. Quoting individual facts from SkyscrapersInfo pages is, in principle, free; reproducing the protected selection or arrangement of those facts, in whole or in substantial part, is not.

Where different sources publish conflicting factual data, the figure that SkyscrapersInfo publishes reflects its editorial judgement after verification; the underlying raw data, where available, is acknowledged in the source notes accompanying the relevant page.

Distinction

Facts (height, address, completion date, architect name) are not protected by copyright and may be quoted freely. Original expression of facts — the specific way SkyscrapersInfo selects, sequences, and contextualises them in a compilation or article — is protected where it satisfies the originality threshold.

Permitted and Restricted Uses

Subject to applicable law, the following uses do not, by themselves, require separate permission from SkyscrapersInfo, and SkyscrapersInfo does not intend to restrict them beyond what applicable law already permits:

  • Reading and browsing the website, by individuals and by organisations (including for ordinary professional research, news reporting, criticism, review, and educational reference), where such browsing does not, by itself, involve reproduction of protected expression beyond what applicable law (including the Copyright Ordinance (Cap. 528), the Berne Convention, and the user's own law) permits. Browsing of this kind, on its own, does not require a separate content licence from SkyscrapersInfo; the rules in Sections 7 and 9 apply to reproduction, redistribution, and extraction of protected expression, not to ordinary access of the publicly available site.
  • Sharing links to individual SkyscrapersInfo pages via social media, messaging, or email.
  • Quoting short passages for the purpose of criticism or review, where the quotation is accompanied by an acknowledgment of the title of the work and, where known, of the name of the author, as contemplated by Section 39(2) of the Copyright Ordinance (Cap. 528) of Hong Kong and equivalent fair-dealing provisions elsewhere. This Section acknowledges the baseline permitted by Sections 39, 40, and related provisions of the Copyright Ordinance (Cap. 528); it does not enlarge any quotation right that the law already provides, and SkyscrapersInfo does not assert any restriction beyond what the law permits on quotation, criticism, review, or news reporting.
  • Caching by your browser for ordinary viewing.
  • Reuse permitted by an applicable open licence (for example, CC BY or CC BY-SA), on the terms of that licence.

The following uses are not permitted without prior written authorisation from SKYSCRAPERS INFO LIMITED (and, where applicable, from the relevant third-party rightsholder):

  • Reproducing entire articles, profiles, or compilations.
  • Commercial republication in any medium, including print, broadcast, and digital.
  • Creating derivative works, including translations, adaptations, restructured databases, or training datasets based substantially on SkyscrapersInfo content, except as permitted by an applicable and non-waivable statutory exception.
  • Distributing SkyscrapersInfo content to others (including by email, file-sharing, or messaging platforms) for commercial purposes.
  • Removing or altering copyright notices, watermarks, attribution marks, or technical protection measures where present.

Nothing in this policy restricts rights that applicable law grants you imperatively, including any fair-dealing or text-and-data-mining exception recognised in your jurisdiction; any right to use unprotected facts (such as building heights, addresses, geographic coordinates, completion dates, and names of architects, developers, and contractors); or any right to reuse materials under an applicable open licence (such as CC BY or CC BY-SA). This policy does not waive, and SkyscrapersInfo does not intend to waive, any such right. The restrictions in Section 7 and in Section 9 apply only to protected expression and to protected compilations, and not to unprotected facts or to materials already made available under an applicable open licence. Where the law of the user's jurisdiction provides stronger protections for the user than this policy, that law prevails.

Commercial Reproduction and Licensing Requests

Commercial reproduction, redistribution, derivative works, syndication, and any other use that requires authorisation under applicable law and that concerns works or rights that SKYSCRAPERS INFO LIMITED actually owns or controls require, to that extent, a separate written agreement with SKYSCRAPERS INFO LIMITED. This Section applies only to works and rights that the Operator actually owns or controls, and only to the extent that applicable law requires permission; it does not require an agreement with SKYSCRAPERS INFO LIMITED for commercial use of a third-party photograph, of publicly available building facts (such as height, address, completion date, architect, developer, or contractor), of material already made available under an applicable open licence (such as CC BY or CC BY-SA), or of any other material for which the Operator has no authority to grant or refuse a licence. No such right is granted by this policy, and nothing on the website should be read as an offer of licence. Commercial licensing arrangements are addressed in more detail on the Draft page at /licensing. This copyright policy does not, by itself, grant any commercial sub-licensing authority over assets owned by third parties; any such authority would have to be obtained directly from the rightsholder or under a separate written agreement.

Where a written enquiry is submitted through the channels listed in Section 12, SkyscrapersInfo may, at its discretion, discuss the following matters with the enquirer:

  1. The SkyscrapersInfo URL or asset identifier in question;
  2. The proposed use, including medium, audience, territory, and any commercial monetisation;
  3. The duration of the proposed use;
  4. Whether the request concerns resale, advertising, training data, syndication, or internal distribution.

SkyscrapersInfo makes no commitment as to response time, the existence of any particular commercial product, archive, or research service, or the outcome of any enquiry. The remedies available against unauthorised use are those provided by applicable law; SkyscrapersInfo does not assert any remedy not provided by applicable law.

Where the materials in question are not owned by SkyscrapersInfo, the enquiry will, where SkyscrapersInfo can identify the rightsholder, be referred to them; SkyscrapersInfo does not act as a licensing agent for third parties.

Automated Extraction, Scraping and Bulk Reuse

SKYSCRAPERS INFO LIMITED reserves all rights in its protected materials against unauthorised automated access, scraping, crawling, harvesting, mirroring, and bulk downloading — through bots, scripts, headless browsers, AI agents, or any other automated means — to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law.

This reservation applies regardless of the source code, network location, or technical means used. It applies to public and to authenticated areas of the site, and to single-page extracts as well as to bulk extracts.

In particular, you may not use SkyscrapersInfo content, in whole or in substantial part, to:

  • Train, fine-tune, evaluate, benchmark, or otherwise improve commercial artificial-intelligence systems, including large language models, image-generation models, computer-vision models, and recommender systems, except as permitted by an applicable and non-waivable statutory text-and-data-mining exception.
  • Construct or maintain competing databases, search indices, or knowledge graphs.
  • Power commercial aggregators, lead generators, or data brokers.
  • Create derivative datasets for resale or redistribution.

The following activities are generally tolerated, where conducted in good faith and within reasonable technical limits:

  • Indexing by general-purpose search engines that comply with widely recognised standards (such as the robots.txt protocol) and identify themselves accurately.
  • Automated access to publicly available RSS or syndication feeds that SkyscrapersInfo may publish from time to time, on the terms set out in the feed itself.
  • Access necessary for security research or interoperability, provided that SkyscrapersInfo is given reasonable prior notice where practicable and an opportunity to address the issue.
Important

This Section applies within the limits of applicable law. Where a non-waivable statutory text-and-data-mining exception applies to your use (for example, for non-commercial scientific research under the laws of your jurisdiction), that exception prevails over this Section. SKYSCRAPERS INFO LIMITED reserves the right to update its position as regulation, technology, and case law evolve.

SkyscrapersInfo does not, by this policy, represent that it currently deploys specific technical measures against automated access; any technical measures that may be deployed in the future will be operated within the limits of applicable law. Bypassing or circumventing such measures, where they exist and where doing so is unlawful, is prohibited.

Nothing in this Section is intended to render unlawful conduct that is, in fact, lawful under the user's own law, including any non-waivable text-and-data-mining exception for non-commercial scientific research, any non-waivable quotation right, any public-domain use, or any reuse permitted by an applicable open licence. The reservation of rights in this Section is forward-looking and applies within the limits of applicable law; it does not, by itself, declare any specific automated access, search-indexing, data-extraction, or research activity to be unlawful, and it does not override statutory exceptions that the user's law grants. SkyscrapersInfo does not, by this policy, claim that ordinary indexing by a general-purpose search engine that complies with widely recognised standards is, in itself, an unauthorised use of protected expression; nor does this policy claim that every automated access, every data extraction, every research use, or every AI-related activity is automatically unlawful.

Attribution Requirements

Attribution obligations depend on the relevant statute, permission, or contract; this Section does not impose a universal mandatory notice on every reuse beyond what applicable law or a valid agreement already requires.

  • Where reuse is permitted by a Creative Commons licence (such as CC BY or CC BY-SA), attribution follows that licence, not this Section.
  • Where reuse is permitted by an individually negotiated written agreement with SKYSCRAPERS INFO LIMITED, that agreement sets the specific source credit required; this Section does not override it.
  • Where reuse is permitted by an applicable statutory exception (including quotation for criticism or review under Section 39 of the Copyright Ordinance (Cap. 528) and equivalent provisions elsewhere), no SkyscrapersInfo-specific attribution is, by this Section, required in addition to what the statute requires.
  • For reuse that is, in fact, within the public domain, no SkyscrapersInfo-specific attribution is, by this Section, required.
  • The Operator may, as a matter of courtesy, request a visible credit linking to the original SkyscrapersInfo page where the original material is, in fact, owned or controlled by SkyscrapersInfo; a request is not, by itself, a universal legal obligation, and this Section does not create one.

Third-party content displayed on SkyscrapersInfo remains governed by the licence or other permission of the actual rightsholder; nothing in this Section imposes contractual attribution obligations beyond those imposed by the licence that actually applies.

For third-party materials displayed on SkyscrapersInfo, attribution must follow the terms of the licence that actually applies to the material (for example, the specific Creative Commons variant or the bespoke licence of the rightsholder). SkyscrapersInfo does not, by this policy, require additional attribution to itself for the reuse of third-party materials unless the applicable licence or a separate written agreement so provides, and does not, by this policy, impose contractual attribution obligations beyond those imposed by the licence of the actual rightsholder. The presence of a credit line on the website is, in any event, a good-faith effort and is not, by itself, a verified statement of title.

For content licensed under Creative Commons and used on SkyscrapersInfo:

CC BY
Credit the named author (where required by the licence); indicate the licence (e.g., CC BY 4.0); link to the licence text; indicate any changes made.
CC BY-SA
As CC BY, and apply the same CC BY-SA licence (or the file-specific version) to derivative works.
Other CC variants
The Operator intends not to publish materials on SkyscrapersInfo under an exclusive NonCommercial (NC) or NoDerivatives (ND) variant where the intended use is incompatible with those restrictions. Each file actually used on SkyscrapersInfo requires file-specific verification of its actual rights and licence; this policy cannot, by itself, certify any file. Wikimedia Commons metadata is useful evidence for checking an individual file but is not conclusive proof that the uploader holds every right needed. The Operator does not represent that the entire current image and asset archive has already been audited, file by file, against this standard.

Nothing in this Section narrows the permissions granted by CC BY or CC BY-SA, which allow reuse without prior permission subject to attribution and (for CC BY-SA) the share-alike condition.

For photographs credited to a specific photographer or agency, credit that photographer or agency in accordance with the licence that applies; do not crop, overlay, or otherwise obscure credit lines provided by the rightsholder or required by the licence.

Materials with NonCommercial or Editorial Only restrictions must be assessed on a case-by-case basis before any commercial reuse; the credit does not, by itself, authorise such reuse. SkyscrapersInfo does not assert that it has authority to grant a commercial licence over such materials.

Copyright Infringement Reports

If you believe that content published on SkyscrapersInfo infringes your copyright or a related right that you are authorised to enforce, the detailed procedure — including what a notice and a counter-notice should contain, how they are submitted, and how SkyscrapersInfo will handle them — is set out on the existing Draft page at /takedown. The /takedown page is the designated explanatory Draft document for that procedure; it is not, by itself, a guarantee that a particular intake channel is functioning or that a notice can be received through any specific address. This Section does not restate that procedure in full and is not, by itself, an invitation to submit a notice through any particular channel. The information below is voluntary and is provided for general guidance only; it does not replace the procedure on /takedown and does not constitute legal advice.

As a voluntary, non-binding indication of the kind of information that may be useful when contacting SkyscrapersInfo about a copyright concern, a written communication may include:

  1. Your name, address, telephone number, and email address.
  2. Identification of the work (or, for compilations, the protected expression) claimed to have been infringed.
  3. The URL or specific location of the allegedly infringing material on SkyscrapersInfo.
  4. A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorised by the rightsholder, its agent, or applicable law.
  5. A declaration that the information provided is accurate and that you are the rightsholder or are authorised to act on the rightsholder's behalf.
  6. Your physical or electronic signature.

These items are not a statutory notice requirement imposed by this policy. Any procedural or formal requirements applicable to a notice, counter-notice, or takedown request are those set out in the Draft /takedown page and in the applicable law of the user's jurisdiction.

SkyscrapersInfo will review each communication it actually receives and, where appropriate and within the limits of applicable law, take reasonable steps, which may include removing or disabling access to the material, restricting its visibility pending further review, or contacting the person who supplied it. Decisions are taken on the basis of the evidence provided and on SkyscrapersInfo's own assessment; SkyscrapersInfo may restore material where a communication is found to be mistaken or insufficient. SkyscrapersInfo does not, by this policy, represent that any particular website channel is currently functional for receiving copyright notices; communications are received only through the channels verified and published for that purpose from time to time, or as described on the Draft /takedown page.

Counter-notices may be considered from users whose content has been restricted in response to a copyright communication. The procedure, and the information that should accompany a counter-notice, is set out on the Draft /takedown page. Submission of a counter-notice does not, by itself, constitute a binding submission to the jurisdiction of any particular court; any agreement on jurisdiction must be made separately, in writing, where appropriate and lawful.

SkyscrapersInfo's handling of copyright notices is informed by, but not limited to, the framework applicable in Hong Kong under the Copyright (Amendment) Ordinance 2022 (relevant provisions in force from 1 May 2023). SkyscrapersInfo does not, by this policy, represent that it currently satisfies any specific statutory safe-harbour conditions; eligibility for any such safe harbour depends on facts that have not been verified by counsel.

Where SkyscrapersInfo receives multiple communications concerning the same source or material, the response is decided on a case-by-case basis within the limits of applicable law. SkyscrapersInfo does not, by this policy, represent that it operates user accounts, accepts user submissions through this policy page, or maintains network-level blocklists; any such measures that may exist or be introduced in the future are operated within the limits of applicable law and are described in separate operational documentation, not in this policy.

Rights Reservations and Contact Information

All rights not expressly granted in this policy are reserved by SKYSCRAPERS INFO LIMITED and by the relevant third-party rightsholders. Nothing in this policy constitutes a waiver of any right, defence, or remedy available at law or in equity.

This policy is, in its current Draft form, provided for transparency. It is not, by itself, a binding jurisdiction, forum-selection, arbitration, or contractual undertaking; clauses of this kind remain subject to counsel review. The proposed governing-law and forum-selection statements in this Section are drafts that reflect the Operator's current intent; they are not, by virtue of this page being publicly readable, presented as binding, and they remain subject to (i) operator approval, (ii) the application of applicable law (including any imperative rights that the law of the user's jurisdiction grants them), and (iii) review by Hong Kong counsel. The substantive provisions of this policy are intended to be governed by the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, subject to any imperative rights that the law of the user's jurisdiction grants them. Disputes that may arise are intended to be subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Hong Kong SAR, subject to the user's imperative rights under their own law and to any forum-selection or arbitration agreement that the parties may enter into separately, in writing.

SkyscrapersInfo may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in its practices, the terms of its licensors, or applicable law. The "Status" displayed at the top of this policy indicates the current stage of the document; this page is currently publicly accessible as a Draft, is not yet effective, and is not, by itself, a representation that any particular revision is operative. The "Effective" date will be set only when, and if, this Draft is approved by SKYSCRAPERS INFO LIMITED and reviewed by Hong Kong counsel; until that approval is given in writing, no "Effective" date exists.

The general contact page (/contact) currently states that online enquiries are not yet being accepted through the website. This policy does not contradict that statement and does not, by itself, create a working intake procedure; the establishment of a functional copyright-notice intake channel is an outstanding operational requirement, pending operator confirmation. This page is publicly accessible as a Draft. Draft status is not the same as unpublished; the document is available for review and may be quoted in commentary, criticism, news reporting, or legal review, subject to the quotation rules of the user's law.

If any provision of this policy is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.

For matters concerning this policy, please use the general contact details published on /contact. As of the date of this Draft, no dedicated copyright intake channel has been independently verified by the operator for the purpose of receiving formal copyright notices; communications about copyright concerns sent through the general contact details will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and the response time, the channel used for reply, and the procedural steps taken are not pre-determined by this policy.

Commercial licensing arrangements are addressed on the Draft page at /licensing. This copyright policy does not, by itself, grant any commercial sub-licensing authority over assets owned by third parties, and any commercial reuse of such assets requires the permission of the relevant rightsholder.

The operator's registered office address is published on /contact. Whether postal correspondence to that address is, in fact, received, opened, routed, or processed on behalf of the company has not been operationally verified by the Operator as part of this Draft; this page does not, by itself, represent that any copyright notice sent by post will be received, processed, or answered. Formal notice requirements, where applicable, are set out on the Draft /takedown page; this page does not invent or designate any copyright-notice receiving channel.

This page does not publish its own intake channels. For copyright concerns, commercial licensing, and general legal correspondence, the relevant pages are /takedown (Draft), /licensing (Draft), and /contact. The cards below summarise where each kind of enquiry is routed.
